“Going into service the Joseph Way”

Welcome to Sunday morning worship. In 1979 Bob Dylan did something completely unexpected; he released a Gospel album called ‘Slow Train Coming’.

The first track on the album, ‘Gotta Serve Somebody’, sets the tone for the whole album and it sets the tone for our next Mosaic Discipleship theme which is Service.

When we speak of service, we usually think it means something we do as a volunteer with us firmly in the driving seat. Dylan turns such a mentality on its head, by imagining a very different perspective when he sings: “You may be an ambassador to England or France. You might like to gamble; you might like to dance. You may be the heavyweight Champion of the world. You might be a socialite with a long string of pearls.

But you’re gonna have to serve somebody, yes indeed, you’re gonna have to serve somebody. Well, it may be the devil, or it may be the Lord, but you’re gonna have to serve somebody.”

Dylan bluntly and typically asks us who you are serving, but even more disturbingly he asks, what is our attitude when we serve?

Please take this time to worship and to be encouraged together. You can find the service on our YouTube Channel using the link below. (available from 8 am on Sunday 20th June)
