‘Temptation: Showdown in the Desert’

Welcome to Sunday morning worship. Today is our communion Sunday so please have some bread and wine ready to share in the service.

Having read about his birth we now come to Jesus’ desert showdown which Yancy describes as his ‘first official act’ but I think that this honour belongs to his baptism as we see in one of pulpit panel carvings. At his baptism he was publicly anointed as Son of God and King by water and Spirit and by the Father who spoke of how delighted he was with him.

In the desert the enemy tries to throw these things into doubt but the result of this is that for Jesus he knows even deeper who he is and how he is to live out his ministry. Being in a desert has a certain resonance with all of our experience of these last 11 difficult months and how they’ve tried and tested our faith and following of Jesus.

Please take this time to worship and to be encouraged together. You can find the service on our YouTube Channel using the link below. (available from 8 am on Sunday 21st February) The sermon notes are at the bottom of the page.
