‘Beatitudes: Lucky are the Unlucky’

Welcome to Sunday morning worship. Today this sermon and the following one will be thinking on and about the Message of Jesus.

After Jesus returned from the desert and began what we may call ‘his ministry’ he was most often referred to as either Rabbi or Teacher. Though these two titles do overlap a lot, they are not really the same.

A Teacher could be someone who was often described as an expert in the Law, that is someone who taught how the Law could be interpreted, but more importantly, someone who taught its application. A Rabbi was someone who not only taught the Law in this way, but he was also someone who would acquire a following who wanted to be discipled in particular by him.

Jesus did both of these things though with some differences. Jesus as a teacher had no official heritage which though not unusual was rare for someone of his level of profile and as a Rabbi instead of waiting to be approached by would be disciples, he took the initiative in choosing who his disciples would be.

Please take this time to worship and to be encouraged together. You can find the service on our YouTube Channel using the link below. (available from 8 am on Sunday 28st February) The sermon notes are at the bottom of the page.
